Majority of homemade handset makers suffer losses this year
font size

Compared with previous two years' good sales performance, this year sees a majority of homemade mobile phone makers suffer great losses. Only a few brands like Lenovo made a profit, China Youth Daily reported.

Consultant of CCIDNET, China's biggest online intelligence service platform, said that market share of famous brands slid by a large margin this year. The third quarter financial reports of Bird, TCL and Amoi show their losses topped 280 million yuan, 460 million HK dollars and 130 million yuan, respectively.

Insiders worry that continuous losses may cause homemade mobile phone makers to quit next year.

The number of home-made mobile phones this year will exceed 88 million with sales volume hitting 130 billion yuan, according to a report on mobile phone analysis of the third quarter 2005.
