Ten soldiers from the Sri Lankan government troops were killed Tuesday as the Tamil Tigers detonated yet another claymore mine in the northern Jaffna district, defense officials said.
The attack was carried out at Puloly in the Vadamarachchi division in the northern Jaffna peninsula at 12:30 p.m. local time (0630 GMT).
The soldiers were carrying food rations when their truck hit the mine. About four more have suffered injuries.
This was the fourth such claymore mine attack carried out by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels this month on the security forces in the north.
On Dec. 4 and Dec. 6 they carried out similar mine attacks, killing 15 soldiers and the last Friday's blast accounted for the deaths of 13 sailors of the Navy.
