Beijing's premium income surges in first 11 months

The national capital Beijing reported 47.26 billion yuan (5.8 billion U.S. dollars) in premium income in the first 11 months this year, up 86.8 percent year on year, the latest statistics have shown.

The premium income on life insurance reached 37.45 billion yuan in the 11-month period, up 131.4 percent over last year's same period, reported Tuesday's Beijing Daily Messenger, a local Chinese-language newspaper.

In the January-November period, Beijing registered 6.74 billion yuan in insurance indemnity, including 2.67 billion yuan in indemnity on life insurance, a rise of 126.7 percent year on year.

Insurance indemnity on health insurance and accident insurance reached 990 million yuan, up 36.4 percent year on year.

Premium income on group insurance surged by 538.6 percent year on year to reach 24.09 billion yuan in the 11-month period, and accounted for 58.6 percent of the total premium income of insurance companies.

While premium income on individual insurance went up by 12.2 percent year on year to reach 9.04 billion yuan in the 11 months and made up 22 percent of the total premium income of insurance companies.
