EU launches first satellite in Galileo navigation program
Russian rocket Soyuz is ready to blast off at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Dec.28, 2005. It will send Giove A, the first test satellite of Europe's Galileo navigation system, designed to rival the reigning US-developed GPS system, into the space.
