News from Guangzhou Municipal Cultural Relics and Archaeology Institute said that a site dating back to Warring State-Southern Yue Kingdom period has been excavated with many potsherds unearthed. More importantly, archaeologists also excavated an ancient stone-built dock and ruins of roads and bridge near Guangzhou Nanhai Shrine.

Pottery urns, pots, three-foot boxes, bowls with decorative geometrical patterns have been unearthed, which can be traced back to Warring States period. And it is also the first time that pottery wares with geometrical patterns were spotted along the coast of Pearl River.

The stone-built dock and ruins of roads and bridge are composed of dock, road and small bridge. After close study of the stone materials, structure as well as excavated relics, archaeologists primarily concluded the dock was built no later than Ming Dynasty, and was abandoned in the middle and late period of Qing Dynasty due to layer of mud in the riverbed and southward move of bank. The dock's function will not be know until further researches are carried out.
