The Home Ministry of Nepal hosted an all political party meeting here Monday with an objective of collecting suggestions and recommendations from the 72 political parties registered at the Election Commission (EC).

"The meeting was organized in connection with the preparations and security arrangement made by the Nepali government for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for Feb. 8, this year," the ministry said in a press statement.

The Nepali government has been making all preparations essential for holding the elections in a peaceful, independent and impartial manner and an action plan has also been prepared for sufficient security even after the elections, Kamal Thapa, Minister of Home, said at the meeting.

Giving assurances for the security of candidates, publicity workers, voters and the officials, Thapa said "The Nepali government has taken note of and is ready to face any possible threat."

Meanwhile, chief of EC Keshav Raj Rajbhandari said at a meeting that the EC has insured the civil servants to be assigned for the up coming local elections.

Gazetted officers carry an insurance amount worth 700,000 Nepali rupees (10,000 US dollars) while the insurance amount for the non-gazetted employees is 500,000 Nepali rupees (7,142.86 US dollars), Rajbhandari noted.
