font size

The Nepali government and the World Food Program (WFP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for providing food assistance to Bhutanese refugees living in different camps in eastern Nepal, state-run Radio Nepal reported on Tuesday.

As per the MoU, the program will make available a total of 9. 3859 million U.S. dollars to the government for this year.

According to the report, WFP provides food assistance to the refugees within the framework of Letter of Understanding with the government, and through the standard Memorandum of Understanding with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which is responsible for the overall management and the protection of refugees in the camps.

Some 105,000 Bhutanese refugees have been sheltering in seven camps in eastern Nepal since the early 1990's, awaiting a permanent solution to their plight.
