Major Forbidden City hall to close for repair
font size

The Hall of Supreme Harmony, Taihedian in Chinese at the Forbidden City, or Palace Museum, will close early this year for repairs, the largest restoration project in its history, as learned from the Palace Museum recently.

The repair work will be arranged strictly in accordance with the maintenance methods of ancient architecture. The natural factors including seasons and moisture will be considered for the repairs, said Li Yongge, director of the restoration center at the Palace Museum.

The project is expected to complete before October 1, 2007. At that time, the hall will regain the lost glory of its prime time in the reigns of Kangxi (1661-1722) and Qianlong (1736-1795) emperors of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
