China has made a major breakthrough in the core technology of 3G (third generation) mobile phone terminals. Developed by the SeuComm Corporation Ltd, the country's first chip for WCDMA mobile phones, named as Noah3000, has passed a systematic test recently, showing it meets the requirements of WCDMA international standards, according to a Xinhua report on January 4 in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province.
Enjoying 16 domestic and foreign patents, it is a key chip for mobile phones, according to the corporation. The new chip is another major achievement made by the corporation following its first CDMA 2000 chip in the country developed in 2003.
WCDMA international standards are the updated ones of the present GSM system. It is expected that the standards will account for 75 to 85 per cent of 3G-market share in the country.
