Overseas investment grows in Shanghai

In 2005 Shanghai, China's largest metropolis, contracted for 4,091 projects worth 13.83 billion US dollars, up 18.3 percent on 2004, according to a report released by the Shanghai Overseas Investment Work Committee.

Over the past two decades, Shanghai has attracted a total of 100 billion dollars for more than 40,000 projects. Of this amount, 60 billion dollars was realized by Jan. 4.

The city's overseas investment features a big increase in the service sector, with the focus on foreign-funded commercial projects.

In 2005, Shanghai-based overseas-funded companies reported 66.9 billion dollars of foreign trade volume, up 25.8 percent on the previous year, according to the report.
