The construction of a new LG Philips LCD factory began in Biskupice Podgorne in Lower Silesia ( south-western part of Poland), as part of South Korean company LG Philips effort to invest 429 million euros there by 2011.
"The road linking future plant with nearby motorway will be broadened till the end of April, ground leveled and builders begin their work in March," Ryszard Pacholik from local administration told journalists on Friday.
The new plant will produce modern LCD (liquid crystal displays), at the beginning three million, later 11 million a year. South Korean investor would also like to produce big and panoramic LCD TV models of different sizes, from 26 to 42 inches.
LG Philips, based in Seoul in the Republic of Korea, has already opened similar factories in Asia: in Gumii (South Korea) and Nanjing (China). It is also building a new one in Paju Display Cluster in Gyeonggi-do in South Korea. Plant to be constructed in Poland will be the first of this kind in Europe.
The company employs approximately 15,000 workers worldwide.
