Nineteen people died of infectious disease in December 2005 in east China's Fujian Province, said a source with the provincial health department on Sunday.

The provincial health department said that it had reported 8,929 cases of class A and class B infectious diseases from 0:00 a.m. Dec.1 to 12:00 p.m. Dec. 31, in which 19 people died of pulmonary tuberculosis, hydrophobia, virus hepatitis, AIDS, newborn baby tetanus and bird flu.

Virus hepatitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, syphilis and dysentery took the first five places of the Fujian's infectious disease outbreak and accounted for 97 percent of the total number.

There were also 3,195 cases of Class C infectious disease reported, but none died of them.
