Relations between China and India are developing on the "highway", Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan said in Beijing Tuesday.
"The relationship practically benefits the people of both countries, and is conducive to peace and stability in Asia, and will also play a positive role in south-south cooperation," he told a regular press conference.
Asked about the on-going visit by Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, Kong said the talks between the Chinese and Indian sides concern international and regional issues, including the situation in south Asia and bilateral ties.
As a year for friendship between China and India, he said, this year represents a rare opportunity for both countries to further promote cooperation and strategic partnership.
Kong also disclosed that Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Mani Shankar Aiyar will visit China from January 11 to 13 at the invitation of Ma Kai, minister in charge of the National Development and Reform Commission.
