President Hu Jintao's speech on China's National Conference on Science and technology was published in Beijing Tuesday.

The speech, titled "adhere to a new path of innovation with Chinese characteristics and strive to build an innovation-oriented country" was published as an offprint by the People's publishing House and was distributed by Xinhua Book Stores Tuesday.

Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, outlined major strategic tasks for building an innovation-oriented country at this speech.

China's National Conference on Science and Technology opened Monday morning in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, the first national conference on science and technology in the new century held by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council.
