    Kuwait in mourning after Emir's death

    Kuwaiti people hold the portraits of their country's Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to mourn his death in front of Dasman Palace in Kuwait City, Jan. 15, 2006. Kuwait's Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday the demise of Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at Sunday dawn. He was 77 years old. A nation-wide mourning is declared for 40 days and Kuwait's state institutions will be closed for three days, starting from Sunday, according to a statement from the Amiri Diwan.

    NASA's Stardust capsule returns to Earth

    NASA's Stardust sample return capsule is seen after it successfully landed at the U.S. Air Force Utah Test and Training Range early January 15, 2006. The capsule contains cometary and interstellar samples gathered by the Stardust spacecraft.

    Chileans seen electing female president
