China appreciates the Libyan government's adherence to the one-China policy, and expects a stronger Sino-Libyan ties on the basis of the one-China policy, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan in Beijing Thursday.
Kong made the remarks in response to a question concerning the relations between Libya and Taiwan at a regular press briefing.
Kong said Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing is visiting Libya and has held talks with Libyan top leader Muammar Ghaddafi. Ghaddafi stated clearly that Libya will unswervingly stick to the one-China principle whatever happens. His country firmly opposes to "Taiwan independence", and supports China's reunification cause.
Kong reiterated that China is firmly opposed to any official contacts between Taiwan and countries which have diplomatic ties with China.
"We hope these countries can properly handle the Taiwan question in accordance with principles on the establishment of diplomatic ties.
