Statistics released by Ministry of Information Industry (MII) on Jan. 19 show that the top 100 Chinese electronics businesses from January to November last year has register a total business turnover of 812.67 billion yuan, up 16 percent from the same period of 2004.
However, their gross profits recorded only 15.71 billion yuan, down 42 percent, and their average profitability stood at merely 1.93 percent.
According to the statistics, the communication manufacturing sector experienced the sharpest profits decline of 37 percent from that in the same period of 2004, with many mobile phone producers running in red. However, the average profit margin in this sector as a whole stood at 4.7 percent, still the highest among the electronic product manufacturers.
The average profitability for computer and household appliances makers yielded 2.3 percent, with 0.61 percent profitability for household appliances manufacturing.
Meanwhile, MII announced that the top ten enterprises contributed 54.5 percent of the operating income and 58.6 percent of taxes of the 100 leading companies.
