Bush greets Asian Americans on Lunar New Year
font size

U.S. President has issued a message of greetings to Asian Americans on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, which falls on Jan. 29.

In his message, Bush said he sent greetings to those celebrating the Lunar New Year, the Year of the Dog. Xinhua obtained a copy of the message on Friday.

"Men and women of Asian descent mark the Lunar New Year with a spirit of renewal and hope," he said.

It is an opportunity to appreciate the special bonds between friends and family and to remember the legacy and wisdom of ancestors, as well as a time to look ahead to the many new opportunities the future would bring, he said.

"Lunar New Year events celebrate the richness of Asian culture and contribute to the strength of our diverse society," said the president.

By honoring their heritage, Bush said, Asian Americans and people of Asian descent around the world help ensure that their values and traditions are passed on to the future generations.
