Death toll rises to three in suicide attack on Iraqi police
font size

The death toll rose to three in a suicide car bomb targeted an Iraqi police checkpoint near the Iranian embassy in central Baghdad on Monday, an Interior Ministry source told Xinhua.

"A suicide car bomb rushed into a police checkpoint near the Iranian embassy, killing three Iraqis including two policemen and wounding seven other people including three policemen," the source said on condition of anonymity.

The attack took place at about 10:10 a.m. (0710 GMT) in central Baghdad near the heavily-fortified Green Zone, where the Iraqi interim government and the U.S. embassy are located.

Insurgents frequently target Iraqi police and forces, accusing them of being collaborators with the U.S. occupation forces.
