HK man gets 25 years in prison for smuggling heroin in Cambodia
font size

A Hong Kong resident was sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for attempting to smuggle 3.1 kg of heroin, local media reported on Thursday.

Chung Kwok Hung, 47, had been arrested in May at Phnom Penh International Airport with the drugs strapped to his thighs as he attempted to board a plane to Hong Kong. He was also fined 10,000 U.S. dollars at the trial on Tuesday.

Chung Kwok Hung's lawyer Kao Soupha blamed the court for failure to present heroin during the trial as evidence that his client had been smuggling heroin.

"Legally if it is a heroin trial, they need to bring the heroin as evidence and present it to the public," Kao Soupha was quoted by The Cambodia Daily as saying.
