China concerned about possible escalation of Iran's nuclear issue: state councilor
font size

China is concerned about the possibility of escalation of Iran's nuclear issue, Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Thursday.

In a meeting with Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani Thursday afternoon, Tang explained China's views on the current situation of Iran's nuclear issue. He said the Chinese side is concerned about possible escalation of the situation.

Tang expressed the wish that all parties concerned should step up diplomatic effort to create favorable conditions for the resumption of talks before the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) holds a special meeting of its board of governors in February.

Larijani said Iran is willing to make further effort to resolve the nuclear issue through dialogue and talks.

Tang and Larijani also exchanged views on Sino-Iranian relations and major regional and international issues of common concern.

Larijani, secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Beijing Thursday morning.

He also met with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Thursday. He will leave Beijing for home Thursday evening.
