The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal has reiterated that polling for the municipal elections slated for Feb. 8 will be held as schedule.
A fresh election program will be announced to fill the positions in which nominations had not been filed, EC spokesperson Tejmuni Bajracharya told reporters on Sunday.
Candidates will run for totaling 4,046 seats in 58 municipalities in 43 districts throughout the country. There are now one metropolitan city, four sub metropolitan cities and 53 municipalities in Nepal.
The spokesman said that the EC had been encouraged by the interest shown by people in participating in the municipal polls.
The EC on Wednesday said that a person could file his or her nominations without photo as well.
Candidates can withdraw their nominations before Saturday in accordance with election regulations.
Totaling 1,942,990 persons are eligible to take part in the upcoming municipal election of the country.
