The Election Commission (EC) of Nepal is to allot symbols to candidates on Sunday for the municipal polls to be held on Feb. 8, an EC official said.
"The candidates in the fray will be given symbols between 12:00 noon and 5:00 p.m. local time (0615GMT and 1115GMT) on Sunday," EC spokesman Tej Muni Bajracharya told reporters.
The candidates representing various political parties will share an official icon while others will be assigned symbols as independent candidates.
Bajracharya said that the EC had selected a total of 136 symbols for voting purpose and the symbols include cap, bicycle, airplane, match box, bucket, pitcher, trident, umbrella, telephone set, book and spectacles.
Prior to allotting the symbols, the EC will make public the final list of the candidates contesting the election across the country, the spokesman said.
According to the EC, there are a total of 1,942,999 voters in one metropolitan city, four sub-metropolitan cities and 53 municipalities in 43 districts of Nepal.
