Erekat urges Hamas to be committed to international legitimacy
font size

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat on Monday called on the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which won a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections on Jan. 25, to be committed to the international legitimacy.

Erekat, who is a member of the new Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC), made the call in an interview with the Voice of Palestine radio.

The senior official told the radio that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), as a member of the United Nations and a part of the Arab world, has commitments in the world body and in the Arab peace initiatives.

For Hamas, the issue now had changed from the opposition policy to a regional international policy, he said, adding that we hope that the Palestinian people's interest is above all interests that had showed up in the opposition slogans.

This stage had ended and now it's a new era and we hope that the brother in Hamas would practice the people highest interests, stressed Erekat.

Meanwhile, Erekat also demanded the whole world to respect the Palestinian people's democratic choice.
