More than 350,000 people in Hong Kong watched a resplendent fireworks display to mark the traditional Chinese New Year here Monday.
One attraction of the 23-minute fireworks display, showed in 10 segments and accompanied by music, was a pattern symbolizing "the smiling face of the God of Fortune".
About 24,000 pieces of fireworks were discharged from 3 large barges on the "Xiangjiang River".
Spectators were impressed by a pattern featuring red Arabic numerals "8".
People applauded when a pattern of twinkling blue stars emerged in the sky which stood for "hope".
Altogether 300 salutes represented the end of the show.
The fireworks display was coordinated by the Hong Kong Commercial and Industrial Association. The sponsorship totaled 3 million HK dollars (about 387,000 US dollars).
