    Firecracker exploded in Henan

    The photo taken on Jan. 31, 2006 shows the truck and motorcycles destroyed during an explosion in Linqi town, Linzhou City of central China's Henan Province. The explosion took place at the storehouse of a closed firecracker company in Linqi town at 14:15 Jan. 29, causing collapse of a neighboring temple nearby and killing 16 people on the spot. Another 20 people were found died during cleaning up of the locale or the treatment. Currently 36 were killed and 48 were injured, with 8 people seriously injured. The rescue work is still underway.

    "Brokeback Mountain" leads Oscar nominations

    Ang Lee's gay cowboy romance "Brokeback Mountain" topped the list of Oscar nominations announced in Los Angeles Tuesday, receiving eight nods including best picture, best director and best actor. The nominations were announced by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino. The 78th annual Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 5 atthe Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.
