Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality reported 39.5 billion yuan (4.9 billion U.S. dollars) of fiscal revenue in 2005, up 30.6 percent year-on-year, the local statistical bureau said.

Thanks to the fiscal revenue growth, total expenditure in local budgets also grew by 29 percent year-on-year to hit 62.56 billion yuan (7.8 billion U.S. dollars), it said.

Spendings on education, social security and urban maintenance work increased by 22.2 percent, 32 percent and 38.3 percent, respectively, over the 2004 figures.
