Russia to join WTO only on acceptable standards: Putin
font size

President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that Russia would only join the World Trade Organization (WTO) on standards acceptable to itself.

Russia must primarily agree with the United States in order to join the organization and U.S. President George W. Bush supports Russia's accession bid, Putin said at his annual press conference in the Kremlin.

Russia still has to complete negotiations with the United States, Australia and Colombia in its efforts to join the WTO.
