Nine Iraqis were killed and more than 30 wounded on Wednesday when a suicide bomber blew himself up among a crowd of workers in southeastern Baghdad, a police source told Xinhua.

"The attack took place at about 7:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) when a suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest blew himself up among a crowd of men waiting for daily work on construction sites near the Samarraie mosque in Baghdad's al-Jadidah neighborhood," Captain Ahmed Abdullah, from Baghdad police, said.

Investigations into the target of the attack was underway, Abdullah said, adding that there was no U.S. or Iraqi security forces at the scene at the time.
