A senior Hamas delegation has left the Gaza Strip for Syria in an effort to seek Arab support, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said on Wednesday.
Abu Zuhri told reporters that the delegation led by top Hamas legislator from Gaza City Saed Siam would also tour in Arab and Gulf countries after Damascus to seek Arab support for the Palestinian people in the next stage.
"The aim of this tour is to consult with other Arab leaders on the future and the developments in the political arena," Abu Zuhri said.
He added that the tour was also aimed at clarifying Hamas' policy after its victory in the Jan. 25 parliamentary elections.
As to a reported meeting held in Cairo between Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas political chief Khaled Meshal, who is based in Damascus, Abu Zuhri said no such meeting was held yet.
He said Hamas is eager to hold a meeting with the president as soon as possible, but denied there was any preparation for holding such a meeting between Abbas and Meshal.
Meanwhile, he confirmed that Hamas has contacted several Palestinian powers and sides, asserting that these contacts would be intensified after the movement received formal mandate on forming a cabinet.
