NATO planes to protect Turin Olympics
font size

NATO will sent two surveillance planes to protect Turin Olympics later this month, said a spokesman for the 26-nation military alliance on Wednesday.

The AWACS planes, normally based in Britain, will stay in Italy during the Winter Olympics, which starts from February 10 to February 26.

However, the Italian government remains responsible for total security efforts, the spokesman told a weekly news conference.

"NATO will not be responsible for the response to any sort of incident or threat," he added.
