Arrivals in Nepal-India border areas will be restricted for three days from Feb. 7 in course of the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for Feb. 8, Radio Nepal reported Thursday.
The decision was taken after consultations were made among chiefs of security and administrative authorities of Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat districts, which share border with Sitamadhi of India, the state-owned radio quoted the District Administration Office as saying.
According to Chief District Officer of Mahottari district, a participant of the meeting, Jayamukunda Khanal, arrivals in the border have been restricted for three days with a view to check the entry of subversive elements while elections are being conducted.
Understanding of this effect has been reached by the two sides regarding security arrangements in border areas, the radio noted.
Khanal also urged all people of Nepal to cooperate in making the elections a success by obeying the rule.
At the meeting, the Nepalese side was represented by District Development Officers of Mahottari, Sarlahi and Rautahat while the Indian side was represented by a team of Indian security officials from Sitamadhi under the leadership of Suman Kumar, magistrate of Sitamadhi district, the radio added.
