Indonesian poll commission official jailed for graftThe Indonesian anti-graft tribunal on Thursday convicted an official with the General Election Commission and sentenced him to 1.5 years in jail in a collective graft case that also sends the commission's head behind bars. The court said M. Dentjik, deputy head of the commission's finance bureau, is proven guilty of misusing his authority to enrich himself. The prosecutors have earlier indicted Dentjik with taking bribe from companies that won contract from the commission. Dentjik is also accused of channeling illegal funds from the commission to other state officials. The same court in Jakarta last September convicted the commission's head Nazaruddin Syamsuddin of collecting kickbacks amounting to more than 1 million U.S. dollars from companies that supplied electoral materials to the commission. Nazaruddin is now serving his seven-year jail term. At least four commission officials have been convicted with the collective graft case. Source: Xinhua |
