    Fire in Dhaka leaves thousands homeless

    Chinese officials visit wounded HK tourists

Chinese Embassy to Egypt, Hong Kong immigration officers and Egyptian officials are rushed with helping the Hong Kong tourists injured during a deadly bus crash in southeastern Egypt on Tuesday. The accident, which occurred on the highway from Egypt's Red Sea resort of Hurghada to the main southern tour city of Luxor,claimed the lives of 14 tourists from Hong Kong, leaving some 30 others injured.

    IAEA board debates on Iran's nuclear crisis

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held here on Thursday an extraordinary meeting of Board of Governors to discuss the Iran nuclear Issue. The meeting is expected to make a decision on a draft resolution tabled Wednesday by France, Germany and Britain, which urges reporting of the Iran nuclear issue to the UN Security Council.

    Iraq reports 1st human bird flu case

An Iraqi girl who died earlier in January was confirmed to have contracted the deadly H5N1 strain of the avian influenza in northern Iraq, the Iraqi health minister said. This was the first reported case in Iraq of the virus, which has killed four people in Turkey and sickened dozens of others. The deadly strain of bird flu has killed over 70 people in Asia since its first outbreak in 2003.

    Bernanke sworn in as Fed chairman

    Ben Bernanke(R), new chairman of the Governor Board of the U.S. Federal Reserve System, is sworn in during a ceremony hosted by Vice Chairman Roger W. Ferguson in Washington Feb. 2, 2006. Bernanke became the 14th U.S. Fed chairman on Wednesday, succeeding Alan Greenspan.
