Drug trafficker sentenced to 14 years in jail in HK

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment after he was found guilty of trafficking in a dangerous drug at the Court of First Instance in Hong Kong on Thursday.

The court heard that on Aug. 21, 2005, officers of Narcotics Bureau (NB) intercepted the man in a building on Kwong Wa Street in Mong Kok.

A subsequent search in premises in the building resulted in the seizure of 26 plastic bags containing a total of 21.31 kg of Ketamine in the unit.

He was subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs. The sentence was meted out at the Court of First Instance on Thursday.

Police reiterate that drug trafficking is a serious offense and offenders may be liable to a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Police will spare no efforts in cracking down on such illegal activities in future.
