Vietnam to permit party members to run business: draft documentMembers of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) will be allowed to run private business, according to a draft political report to be submitted to the party's 10th national congress slated for this year. "Party members, who engage in running private business without scale restrictions, must typically obey the Party Stature, laws, policies of the state and specific regulations of the CPV Central Committee (CPVCC)," says the draft report publicized on major local newspapers, including People and People's Army, on Friday. Some local officials have recently said Vietnam would consider amendment of the Party Stature, including allowing party members to engage in the private economic sector, which contributes some 60 percent of Vietnam's gross domestic product, at the coming 10th national congress of CPV.
