Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is slated to attend the celebration of the Chinese New Year due to be held at the Jakarta Convention Center on Saturday.

"The President will come and join us," chairman of the celebration organizing committee, Js Sugeng Sentosa Imam, said here on Friday.

He said Religious Affairs Minister Maftuh Basyuni, Jakarta governor Sutiyoso and several other high-ranking officials as well as ambassadors from some friendly countries would also attend it.

He said around 4,500 people are expected to attend the celebration, organized by the Indonesian Khonhucu religious council (Matakin).

He said a religious ritual would be done led by Khonghucu religious teacher Tan Tjoe Seng before the celebration begins.

This year's Lunar New Year fell on Jan. 29. Many celebration activities have been held in Indonesia where more than 10 million Chinese-Indonesians are living.
