font size

The anti-government guerrillas on Friday evening detonated powerful bombs and exchanged fire with security forces at different places in mid-western Nepal, local police office said here Saturday.

"The guerrillas detonated powerful bombs in front of local airport at Rajha Chowk area and Dhamboji area of the Nepalgunj city in Banke district, some 600 km west of Kathmandu," District Police Office said in a press statement.

The security forces retaliated after the guerrillas opened fire at the local Bheri Police Office, the Regional Police Training Center and the Dipendra Police Hospital.

The firing continued for one and half hours in the evening, the statement noted, adding, "However, no casualty has been reported so far."

Meanwhile, security forces foiled the guerrillas attack on the joint security base camp at Chandranigahpur town of central Rautahat district, some 200 km south of Kathmandu, local police officer said.

"Around 500 guerrillas attacked the camp from two direction on Friday evening," Keshav Prashad Adhikari, chief of District Police Office, said in a press statement.

The security forces and the guerrillas exchanged fire for around 45 minutes after which the guerrillas fled to the nearby jungle.

There was no casualty on the side of security forces, the statement noted, adding, "Some guerrillas may have been killed in the incident."
