Solana welcomes IAEA's decision to report Iran to UNSC
font size

The European Union's common foreign policy and security chief Javier Solana on Saturday welcomed the decision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to report Iran's nuclear program to the UN Security Council.

The decision "sent a clear signal to Iran that it must comply with the demands of the international community to cooperate fully with the IAEA," Solana was quoted as saying in a statement.

The brief statement was issued by Solana's spokeswoman Cristina Gallach after the adoption of an IAEA resolution on Saturday.

The IAEA Board of Governors voted 27-3 with five abstentions on Saturday to approve an EU-drafted resolution to report Iran's nuclear issue to the Security Council.

Britain, France and Germany had been in talks on behalf of the European Union with Iran for more than two years. The three countries scrapped talks last month after Tehran removed IAEA seals and resumed nuclear research.
