The Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement will convene soon to discuss reasons behind its failure in the Jan. 25 parliamentary elections, a senior Fatah leader said on Sunday.
Abbas Zaki, member of Fatah executive committee, told the " Voice of Palestine" radio that the sixth Fatah General Assembly, which was originally scheduled in March, would be advanced to February due to the movement's defeat in the elections.
Zaki said that preparation for the meeting was underway.
In addition, Zaki blamed primaries for Fatah's the failure in the legislative elections.
Meanwhile, the Fatah leader reiterated that Fatah would not join any new cabinet to be formed, adding that it would be enough for Fatah at this time to remain an opposition party in the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC).
Fatah, a key movement that had dominated Palestinian politics in the past four decades, was defeated by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) with a big margin in the January elections, gaining only 45 seats in the 132-seat parliament.
Holding a majority of 74 seats in the new legislature, Hamas is expected to form the next cabinet, according to Palestinian law.
