Folk culture tourism in spotlight of China's New Year
font size

The folk culture tourism was in the spotlight of China's Spring Festival, a new growth point of China's tourism industry.

Visiting the temple fair was traditional for Beijing residents. On the first day of the holiday, 45,000 people visited the Lama temple in Beijing, an all-time high. The World's Park attracted five time more visitors than the previous year, thanks to its Asian folk culture parade.

People from various parts of China came to Beijing for the temple fair events. On the third day of the holiday, some 700,000 visitors gathered for several fairs.

In Nanjing, the famous Conficious Temple Fair celebrated its 20th birthday this year. A Shanghai resident Li Meng said she enjoyed the folk arts such as paper cutting, colorful lanterns and sugar figures. The fair attracted over one million domestic and foreign visitors in the first five days of the holiday.

Experts said the folk culture tourism promotes the understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditional arts.
