The public transport volume in the Chinese capital of Beijing was up 7.95 percent on last year during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, which ended on Sunday, with no severe traffic accidents.

Figures from the Beijing Municipal Public Transport Committee revealed that Beijing's public transport, including local buses, long-distance and tourist buses, the subway and taxis, carried 92 million people during the past week of China's Lunar New Year.

The transport volume of tourist buses witnessed the largest increase, rising by 44.52 percent over the same period last year. Tourist buses carried a total of 492,800 tourists during the peak travel season, known as China's first golden travel week of the year.

Taxi business was 38.58 percent higher than that of last year. Over 13 million people took a taxi during the holiday.
