As the curtain closed on the week-long Spring Festival travel rush on Monday, China's Yangtze River economic zone had netted one third of the country's tourist income for the "Golden Week".
Tourism authorities in East China's Jiangsu, Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai Municipality reaped 11.5 billion yuan (1.4 billion U.S. dollars) in tourist income.
Expressways linking Shanghai to the neighboring two provinces recorded the entry of 208,900 private cars, up 16.8 percent on last year, as more people chose to take driving tours.
Most of the places of historic interest and scenic spots in the region received more tourists than last year.
