Japan's foreign exchange reserves reached 851.67 billion U.S. dollars at the end of January, marking the highest level on record, Kyodo News reported on Tuesday.
The increase mainly stemmed from the growing value of euro- denominated assets propelled by the euro's rise against the U.S. dollar in the reporting month, Kyodo quoted an official from the Finance Ministry as saying.
Japan's previous record high in foreign exchange reserves was 847.77 billion dollars logged in August last year.
As of Jan. 31, Japan's foreign exchange reserves were composed of 710.55 billion dollars in securities and 122.30 billion dollars in deposits, plus IMF reserve positions of 2.21 billion dollars, IMF special drawing rights of 2.61 billion dollars and 13.99 billion dollars in gold.
