font size

The European Union (EU) has provided Uganda with 930,000 euros (1.1 million U.S. dollars) to fund smallholder farmers in three districts.

The money was provided through Africa 2000 Network, a non- governmental organization, which aims at improving the livelihood of the farmers.

Frederick Kabuye, the executive director of Africa 2000 Network, was quoted by local press as saying on Thursday that the money would be given to farmers in Iganga, Mayuge and Kabale in three years.

Kabuye said Africa 2000, which is marking 15 years of operation in Uganda, has projects in 11 districts, covering over 100,000 farmers.

He said they provide extension services, pest research, farm inputs and others.

Kabuye added that there is need to sustain the organization's achievements and getting the interest of the public.
