Three East African countries will jointly promote the region as a tourist destination, the general manager of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has said.
James Bahinguza was quoted by The New Vision as saying on Thursday that the tourist boards of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania are meeting in the northern Tanzanian town of Arusha this week to work out strategies that would enable tourists visit the region easily.
"We want to make east Africa one tourist attraction because all the three countries have common tourism potential," he said on Wednesday before leaving for the Arusha meeting.
Bahinguza said some of the issues to be discussed are issuing of one visa to tourists to east Africa to allow them move in the three countries without being disturbed at border posts.
He also said there was a need to open borders and recruit employees at the borders and airports should be made friendly.
Tourism is important sector to earn foreign currencies for the three east African country.
