The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) said Thursday it has canceled an upcoming friendly game with Denmark for security reasons.
The game, a warm-up prior to the men's group Thomas Cup championship, was originally scheduled on March 14.
PBSI said it cannot guarantee security for Danish shuttlers following the mounting protests and riots here against the publishing of the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.
"The decision to cancel the game was taken yesterday (Wednesday) for security reasons," PBSI foreign affairs department head Sulistyanto said here.
Because of the cancellation, PBSI considered inviting other teams from Malaysia, Thailand or South Korea for substitution, he said.
Members of the Indonesian Thomas Cup squad include Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Simon Santoso and Markus Wijanu in singles and Candra Wijaya/Sigit Budiarto, Luluk Hadiyanto/Alvent Yulianto, and Dan Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan in doubles.
