According to Li, Taiwan investors have moved their steps from costal Guangdong, Fujian to Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shandong and even to Wuhan, Chengdu and some inland and western cities.

Since Xiamen-Jinmen, Mawei-Matsu direct trip and chartered flight during the Spring Festival across the Taiwan Straits were opened, direct exchanges in cargo, personnel, capital and information between the two sides saw a rapid increase and procedures become more and more simplified.

Taiwan companies' operation in the mainland shows obvious localization characters in recent years, said Li.

Majority Taiwan companies used to reply heavily on imports of production materials, but now most of them can be obtained from the mainland with the amount having exceeded that of the imports.

Many Taiwan businessmen in Minnan, southern Fujian, say the new development across the Taiwan Straits has promoted the economic integration between Taiwan and the mainland.

As trade volume of the two sides continues to surge, more and more Taiwan enterprises take the Chinese mainland as their top target for long-run development, said Mr. Zhang, chief executive official of a Taiwan Real Estate Company based in Xiamen.
