At least five guerrillas and two securitymen were killed on Friday in clashes in different parts of western Nepal, the Nepali Ministry of Defense said Saturday.

"At least three guerrillas and two securitymen were killed in a clash at Ramuwapur area of Nawalparasai district, some 200 km west of Kathmandu," the ministry said in a press statement.

The security forces conducting search operation following the shootout with the armed guerrillas discovered the bodies of the three guerrillas from the periphery of the clash site, the statement added.

The security forces also confiscated one .303 rifle from the incident site.

Meanwhile, two guerrillas died on the spot when the security forces conducting regular patrol carried out retaliatory action against the guerrillas who opened fire at Dam-side area of Pokhara city in Kaski district, some 200 km west of Kathmandu, the statement said.

On Thursday, the security forces cleared the road blocks set up by the guerrillas and resumed vehicular movement at Daiji, Jhalari, Bani and Machali local road section of Mahendra Highway, East-West Highway of Nepal, in far western Kanchanpur district, some 800 km west of Kathmandu, the statement added.

In the meantime, the bomb disposal team of the security forces defused two improvised explosive devices at Sangwa area of central Sindhuli district, some 100 km southeast of Kathmandu, and bombs planted at Ranjhachowk and Chauli Chowk area of mid-western Banke district, some 600 km west of Kathmandu.
