Hong Kong has become the most important source of investment to Shanghai, China's leading industrial and commercial center.

Information from Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce said Hong Kong investors had made investments in 11,767 ventures in the city by last October, with the contractual investment amounting to 23.45 billion U.S. dollars.

Shanghai has been chosen as the host of World Expo 2010 and it expects 70 million visitors to the city during the world exposition period, according to an official from the municipal commission of commerce.

"The World Expo 2010 will provide the city's service sector with a huge business opportunity," said the official.
